Meet us at COP29

We’re here at COP29 in Baku! Plant-for-the-Planet’s delegation of young people from around the world has come together for the UN Climate Conference. From November 11th to 22nd, 2024, leaders, scientists, activists, and policymakers are uniting to focus on building climate resilience, restoring ecosystems, and promoting sustainable land use.

Plant-for-the-Planet’s Main Goal for the COP29

Our goal at COP29 is to underscore the urgency of binding climate action. We are calling for an immediate commitment from G20 countries to end deforestation and to strengthen funding for tropical rainforests. This includes increasing contributions to the Amazon Fund and supporting the establishment of the Tropical Forest Funding Facility (TFFF), as proposed by the Brazilian government.

Defending the Defenders - Safeguarding Human Rights and the Environment

In 2024 alone, at least 196 environmental activists were murdered. Moreover, many other climate justice activists are affected by repressions, threats and gender-based violence due to their activism. The aim of this side event is to make violence against environmental activists, human rights defenders and journalists more visible worldwide, including in COP host countries.
In an interactive format , environmental activists will report on lived realities and enter into an exchange with the audience. The ongoing repression against them underlines the need to take strong action against the systematic attacks on their work and their lives.
